THE MOMENTS THAT WE ARE

A CAPTURED PARADISE-MOMENT IN KOH RONG SANLOEM

When I´ve travelled Myanmar by bus, for hours and hours driving through no-man´s-land, I was watching a movie called „The vow“. The moment when Kim Carpenter´s mind was speaking, saying the following thoughts, I was super resonating to them. So I stopped the movie to capture the quote:

The thing is each one of us is the sum total of every moment that we´ve ever experienced, with all the people we´ve ever known.“ And he went on with: „And it´s these moments that become our history like our own personal greatest hits of memories that we play and replay in our minds over and over again.“

And <BOOM> I directly felt in love with this concept, with this understanding of living life.

„The thing is each one of us is the sum total of every moment that we´ve ever experienced, with all the people we´ve ever known.“

The reason why I was so attracted to this is because it´s so true. The absolute truth if you ask me. This is who we are and what we made of. When these words hit me, I was already on the road travelling Asia since one year and in the beginning of these 12 month I was going through a big transition of changing my deep sadness into a stable happiness via finding back to the joy of life where I´ve started with in the South of Sri Lanka and every single day after I was creating all these beautiful moments because I had understood that this is what we are.

It´s them, these moments. All of them. Which is a very beautiful realisation because once you´ve understood that, you´ve created the awareness that you are the creator, the painter of your picture, the storywriter, the author of your own book called LIFE with having the pen in your hand in every single second and with it the decision of how to create the life you want to live.

The words of the designer Jac Vanek crossed my digital way of research while writing and they are exactly expressing the same thing:

You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, and the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these. You are the sound of the ocean, breath of the fresh air, the brightest light and the darkest corner. You are a collective of every experience you have had in your life. You are every single second of every day.“ And she goes on with: „So drown yourself in a sea of knowledge and existence. Let the words run through your veins and the colors fill your mind until there is nothing left to do but explode, There are no wrong answers . Inspiration is everything. Sit back, relax, and take it all in.”

And this is exactly what I did, I sat back and took it all in. I started my travels with a mindset where I wasn´t able to see the sun anymore, only dark days. I decided to travel to stop and change it and once I grabbed the pen I wrote the stories that I want to read in my book in the last days of my life. Life inspired me as same as places and people. One of these inspiring moments happened on an island in the South of Cambodia, called Koh Rong Sanloem, where I was supposed to stay one night but ended up staying seven days, between Christmas and NYE.

While I was helping in a hostel for free accomendation and food I´ve met two french girls, the cutest two french girls ever. Lila and Nelly. Two beautiful souls from Paris. Cool kids. Wild childs. Young and free. Full of creativity and moonchilds like me. They were like the younger version of me, ready to discover the world with a head full of ideas and always a pencil or paintbrush in the pocket to create things.

We´ve met and it matched. A match of energies and sympathies. They were putting art on a wall of another hostel and we´ve spent our free time together at the beaches, creating sculptures out of nature.

We gave us names based on Idefix, the little white dog of Asterix, so we became Nellix, Lillix and Connix. We were our own little gang, super present in the moment, living the happy now. Moments in paradies. Moments of freedom, joy and fun, love and laughter, glow and flow, inspiration and creativity. Moments of full happiness where nothing else is needed to be added. Moments we´ve created by going with the flow, by being in alignment, being grounded and present, being creative. Moments created by being us.

We are these moments. These moments become us. It´s part of us. It´s like we are an empty cup and with every action we take, every move we make, every book we read, every place we travel to and every person we spend time with, we decide how we fill up this cup. Make sure that in the end the cocktail you´ve mixed is a tasty one. The one you want to get drunken with, drunken with the beauty of the moments of your life. To come back to Kim Carpenter: Make sure that every song you´ll play along the way is a hit because you´ll make it to one. This is how we create our „own personal greatest hits of memories that we play and replay in our minds over and over again.“

This is what I want to do when I´m old, playing my greatest hits. That´s why I´m creating all these beautiful moments.

Don´t wait to create. If you are not already having a pen in your hand, grab one.

Your own story wants to be written, your greatest hits want to be played.
