Volunteering in an orphanage

As a volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in the children’s development and the day-to-day running of the orphanage. In return, you’ll become part of their family, enjoying a unique, rewarding experience to remember for a lifetime.

Here are some of the activities you can help them with:

  • Teaching English through play, conversation and helping with homework.

  • Helping with daily chores like cleaning, washing, cooking, or getting the children ready for school.
  • Providing entertainment like playing games, drawing, reading, or trips to the park. The children also love music and dance!

  • Volunteers can also support the children´s home with their specific skills, e.g. environmental science graduates can help to install solar panels, an IT expert can help to develop website stuffs etc

The orphanage we are working with in Nepal is located in Kathmandu City. We are cooperating with the team since four years. Round about 50 children are living in this children´s home.

The Volunteering Program is 5 days a week from monday until friday. The weekend is free time where you can explore the city or close by cities like Patan which is one of the major cities of Nepal located in the south-central part of Kathmandu Valley. It is best known for its rich cultural heritage, particularly its tradition of arts and crafts. It is called city of festival and feast, fine ancient art, making of metallic and stone carving statue.

Or you just spend time with your new friends, wash your clothes, organise your personal stuff or

go for little adventures which can be:

  • paragliding or bungee jumping in Pokhara
  • jungle safari in Chitwan
  • short trek: rim valley trek with an remarkable sunrise setting in Nargakot
  • waterrafting, mountainbiking, hiking
  • mountain flight>> prices are depending on how many people are joining. A longer trek of 12-14 days into the Himalayas after the program is additionally also an option to discover the whole beauty of the country.

Which month is the best to travel to Nepal? Possible the whole year. For a combination with trekking the following seaons are recommended regarding the temperatures at night and the raining season from june until septembre:

march, april, may and october, november.

The volunteer program contains:

  • airport pick up + nepali dinner
  • seightseeing (excluding entry fees): boudhanath, pashupati, swayambhunath, durbar square
  • 4 weeks volunteering in the orphangage including bed+beddings and four meals (additional weeks can be added)
  • joining charity/social activities with cooperating teams like f.e. GREEN SOUL  or FHL NEPAL(Faith, Hope & Love for Nepal)  project support, depending on the actions in the choosen period
  • contact person for the whole time for any questions>> Prices depending the lenght of time you are staying. Feel free to ask!
